Lake Panic - Birdhide
Project type
Eco Architecture
Date
2023
Location
Skukuza, Kruger National Park, South Africa
Situated on the Southern bank of Lake Panic near Skukuza in Kruger National Park, the proposed bird-hide has undergone a thorough site analysis to determine the optimal positioning of the structure. The objective is to strategically place the bird hide to remain concealed while offering expansive views of the cove and the larger lake area from within. The cove itself is rich in biodiversity, providing users with access to an ecologically diverse environment.
The sheltered location of the site, coupled with its proximity to the existing hide to the East and the adjacent road to the South, presented an opportunity to seamlessly integrate a double-storey structure. This design ensures that the hide remains unseen from both the existing structure and the road. The incorporation of a double-storey layout enhances the user experience by offering multiple perspectives to appreciate the surroundings. Additionally, this design choice minimizes the footprint of the structure, thereby reducing any potential disturbance to the site.
