House du Plessis

Situated to the east of Lindley in the Free State, this design proposal seamlessly weaves together the natural cycles with family rituals, integrating elements of place, time, and space. While the farm may not serve as the primary residence for the du Plessis family, a customary visit to the farm extends beyond leisure, encompassing active involvement in farming activities. Spanning numerous generations, the farm holds a profound sentimental value for the client, evoking cherished memories of childhood experiences—playing and fishing in the river, working with cattle alongside the father, enjoying sunrise coffee, indulging in hearty family breakfasts after returning from the fields, stoking the donkey for warm water, and engaging in late-night sessions of cigars and whiskey. These rituals are deeply rooted in the essence of the place and the passage of time.

In the meticulous analysis of the site, every parameter and attribute were thoroughly examined to ensure that the proposed solution harmoniously aligns with the unique characteristics of the surroundings. The proposal aims to evoke a rich experience that appeals to all the senses, that in turn augments the formation of strong memories for generations to come.
